Installing your Braai

Depending on what suits your environment best, our Braais can be either built-in or freestanding.

Built-in (without a stand) | Freestanding (includes the stand)

Our 1200 Braai Stand allows flexibility and prevents the Braai from being fixed to a position or permanent structure, it also acts as a great storage for plates, cooking utensils etc too.

If you wish to install your own built-in Braai then we have a few handy tips…

  • If you have a roof structure above your set up, it is recommended to seal between the flue and roof material (tile, felt, glass, perspex etc.) with The Roof Sealing Kit.

  • When building the braai into an enclosed structure it is recommended to insulate around the lower 690mm of the braai body with fibre cement board. Make sure you leave a minimum of 20mm between the inner skin of the non-combustible building material and the surface of the Braai and ensure the area is ventilated so heat can disperse

  • Combustible materials must not be in contact with the outside of the braai body or flue. They should be insulated where close by and when passing the flue through a roof.

  • If not already surrounded by stone/concrete flags, a heat resistant hearth should be fitted 500mm around the lower door.

  • If the braai is being built in, it should be supported by a non-combustible base like flags or concrete lintels. A second lintel should be positioned above the braai to support any brickwork above the body.

  • The braai is best positioned 850mm-900mm off the ground (this is the height of our braai stand).

  • The weight of the 1200 built in braai is approximately 120kg and the weight of the 1200 braai with stand is approximately 150kg.

Where to put my braai?

Remember to pick an area of your garden that gives plenty of room for both cooking and entertaining.

After all, a Braai is a great showpiece for any area and is a natural place for people to congregate around at a party or gathering. When planning where to put the Braai think about the following things:

  • Comfortable space for food preparation and service

  • Seating and dining area for your guests

  • Shelter from the elements (we use the Braai all year round, so a consideration if you wish to do the same and don’t like getting wet)

  • Comfortable space for food preparation and service (check out our Outdoor Kitchen Units)
